Movies & TV
Welcome to the Movies and TV Forum (Read me first!)
Movies and television shows are perhaps our most widely enjoyed forms of entertainment culturally; almost everyone you know will have a favorite movie or television show to recommend to you when prompted. With the recent popularity of online streaming services, there are thousands of shows and films at your fingertips at all times. It is often difficult to know where to begin, so usually a recommendation from a friend is a great place to start. At JewSurf, we want our Movies and TV forum to be a virtual gathering of friends discussing what they have seen together and recommending new things for each other to watch.
You can use our forum to express yourself as an amateur film reviewer! Here are our top tips for writing an engaging review of a movie or television series:
1. Write a brief summary about a basic plot of the movie/TV show, the genre, and if there are any notable actors or directors other people would recognize.
2. Whatever you do, do not include spoilers in your review! If you desperately need to make sure you put a *spoiler alert* at the top of your post.
3. Share your favorite aspects of the piece, or give the rationale for your criticism.
4. Choose an engaging and informative title. For example, “King of Staten Island is a laugh out loud comedy with a lot of heart” or “My Octopus Teacher filled me with wonder, 4 stars”.
5. Post a link to a YouTube trailer. If someone is recommending you something the first thing you do is look up the trailer to see if it piques your interest, so make it easy for others by posting a link along with your review. You can also make it easy for people to find the show/film by letting people know what streaming platform you viewed it on.
6. Give it a star rating to summarize your overall thoughts.
Browse the Movie and TV forum to enjoy reviews from other JewSurf users and contribute your thoughts to start a conversation around the film or series.
You can also use our forum to find new television shows and movies! Take suggestions from reviews, or put up a post asking for recommendations. To make sure you get the recommendations best for you, list some popular content that you already enjoy, and post links to the trailers to prompt people’s memories when they are thinking about other similar media.
Watching a series that ended on a cliffhanger in the final episode? Guessing wildly about what will happen next while waiting for the next episode to air? You can use this forum to find a community of people who are watching the same show as you and discuss fan theories and other thoughts about the work. Just make sure you let people know if you will be discussing spoilers with a *spoiler alert*.
