Taglit Birthright Israel
Welcome to the Taglit Israel Forum (Read me first!)
Taglit is an organization supported by Jewish philanthropists and thousands of ordinary Jewish and non-Jewish donors around the world with the goal of strengthening Jewish identity, community and connection to Israel. Taglit works towards this goal by offering no strings-attached free trips for young adults to Israel. So far they have provided over 750 000 young Jewish people with a completely free 10-day trip of self discovery and community connection.
Taglit considers it your birthright as a Jewish person to experience the wonder of Israel. There are Jewish people in various countries around the world and today there are many different ways to be Jewish. It does not matter if you consider your Jewishness cultural or spiritual, all are welcome on the trip. You simply need to meet 3 requirements: have at least one Jewish parent or have converted to Judaism, be between the ages of 18 and 32, and not have travelled to Israel before (stays of 3 months under the age of 18 are acceptable). You can check if you are eligible for the trip by taking the Taglit eligibility quiz: birthrightisrael.typeform.com/to/Oax9FO
Understandably if you are a young person considering whether to apply for a Taglit Israel trip you may have a few questions! It can be daunting to travel to a country you have not been to before, especially if you are going by yourself, and a lot of Jewish people may not know very much about what Israel is like. Our Taglit forum is your opportunity to post any questions you have about the trip or Israel in general. You can ask past participants about their favorite moments from the trip, what kinds of people went on the trip, what you should bring with you — literally anything you can think of. There is no such thing as a stupid question, so ask away!
If you have been on the 10-day journey with Taglit before, nothing would be more valuable to those considering this trip than your advice and stories. We at JewSurf strongly encourage you to post about your experiences with Taglit: what you loved, what you learned, and what you wish you had known before going on the trip etc. Each Taglit trip is unique to the people that are a part of it, so the more voices we have on this topic the closer we get to a complete picture of the Taglit experience! Journaling about your Taglit adventure can also be beneficial for you personally. Writing about your feelings and experiences can give you clarity and help organise your mind. It is also nice to have a recording of a big life event to look back on later.
You can write about your experience in as many or as few words as you wish by posting on our forum. You can also upload photos of your journey. Our forum also provides you with the opportunity to connect with other past travelers and make friends with like-minded Jewish people. Taglit facilitates journeys for young people to Israel, but even if you took a cultural trip on your own without Taglit, we would still love to hear about your experiences. We can not wait to hear about the experiences of previous Taglit participants, and the hopes and questions of potential young adventurers. Happy posting!
